NEENAH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A limited-edition beer is making its debut in celebration of the 33rd annual Fox Cities Marathon.
Lion’s Tail Brewing Co. in Neenah created the special brew, aptly named “Pace Yourself.” The tag line chosen for the campaign is, “One sip and one step at a time.”
“This idea of having a beverage tied to the marathon has been in my mind for a little while, and when Lion’s Tail showed some interest in it, we thought, ‘Well, let’s have a lot of fun with it!'” said Julie Johnson, race director for the Fox Cities Marathon.
Officials say Pace Yourself is a 4.2% ABV pilsner with toasted wheat and noble hop varieties “celebrating the spirit of community and endurance.”
Johnson said it’s tradition in the running community to have a cold beer at the end of a race.
“It really signifies many things in your life, but really for the participants to pace yourself in the marathon, the half marathon or whatever event that you’ve chosen, but also to enjoy a beverage at the end,” Johnson said.
Lion’s Tail is also hosting a post-party for the marathon.
“That way, participants can walk down from the finish line… and then everyone can hang out and celebrate their accomplishments together,” said Liz Welch, marketing and business operations manager for Lion’s Tail Brewing Co.
In addition to beer and liquor, there will also be food and a mimosa bar available at the post-party.
Johnson said registration is still open, but spots are filling up fast. Click here to register.
Friday’s events include a Kids Fun Run, Diaper Dash and Toddler Trot at Fox Cities Stadium. Saturday is the 5K and 10K races, which start and finish at Riverside Park in Neenah.
Finally, the weekend concludes Sunday with full, half, relay and competitive walk divisions beginning at the UW-Oshkosh Fox Cities campus in Menasha and finishing at Riverside Park.
