Ian Happ slugged a solo homer and Michael Busch tallied an RBI single.
Drew Smyly earned the win in relief after Javier Assad was pulled following a six-walk performance over three-plus innings.
Chicago has won three of its last five to stay fourth in the NL Central at 49-and-53.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said the Cubs are a good team.
But, he added, his club had a chance to win despite making dumb mistakes.
Tobias Myers got the loss after giving up two earned runs over five-plus innings.
Murphy also said the Brewers bullpen was taxed after Myers gave them 5 1/3 innings.
Willy Adames blasted a solo homer as Milwaukee remains first in the division at 57-and-43.
The 2 teams meet again tonight at Wrigley Field.
