MILWAUKEE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Former President Donald Trump will be making his appeal to voters across the country from Milwaukee Thursday night and that includes communities that typically don’t lean Republican at the polls.
The Trump campaign has a coordinated effort going on that includes help from delegates across the country to convince minority voters Trump is a better choice than President Joe Biden.
Those efforts have been happening face-to-face with potential voters across Milwaukee this week.
“The Republican Party is pro family values, pro life, and it helps the economy,” said Miriam Gleason, a California delegate. “So, as a Hispanic immigrant in America, I can tell you the Republican Party values more of our values.”
The Trump campaign has held multiple events geared specifically toward minority communities.
“Just get out there and critically think and you’ll be surprised if you kind of push out all the noise, kind of get away from the narrative and start looking for facts,” said A.J. Yvette, an African American from Dallas, Texas who is at the convention in Milwaukee. “Once you do that, you’ll see Trump isn’t as bad as what the mainstream media would want to portray him to be.”
Democrats warn voters should look at the records for each candidate when deciding who to support.
“You can see it with the orange traffic cones, with the cranes,” said Ben Wikler, chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. “You can see it with the workers hard at work everyday building up America in a country and state where Joe Biden and Kamala Harris actually kept their word and more.”
Trump is scheduled to speak from 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
