APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – In the face of complaints from homeowners who had water and sewage in their basements last week, Appleton’s mayor again said there is no evidence of blockage in the city’s storm water system.
Mayor Jake Woodford issued a statement Thursday, putting the blame on an extreme amount of rain in a short period of time.
“The stormwater situation likely has been made worse by a wetter-than-normal spring and early summer, leaving the ground surface saturated and as a result, the historic rainfall event exceeded the ability of the already saturated ground to absorb the water,” the statement continued.
Woodford’s statement also said the city is setting up meetings for residents to speak with elected officials and city staff members. Woodford promised schedule details in the coming days.
Woodford also said he is speaking with county and state officials to request relief efforts. He also said he is contacting philanthropic and volunteer organizations for help for the residents.
