TWO RIVERS, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Officials credit working smoke detectors with helping residents and their pets escape a house fire in Two Rivers.
Just before 12:40 p.m. Wednesday, the Two Rivers Fire Department (TRFD) was called to 2722 12th Street for a report of a house fire. When crews arrived on scene, the home’s occupants and their pets had already safely exited the residence.
Smoke was visible from the attic vents and a fire was located in the kitchen, extending into the attic. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze.
The home and its contents suffered moderate fire and smoke damage estimated at $50,000. No injuries were reported.
The fire is still under investigation. Residents are being assisted by the Red Cross.
TRFD reminds residents that working smoke detectors are imperative to early notification of a fire. Smoke detectors should be checked twice a year to ensure they operate properly.
