APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Redevelopment plans for Thrivent Financial’s 600-acre tract of land on Appleton’s north side are continuing to move forward.
Thrivent is working to create a master plan to help guide the long-term development of the campus, located between Ballard Road and Meade Street north of I-41.
The company provided an update on the project Wednesday, saying it has begun submitting applications for future land use, zoning and permitting, as well as an amendment to the Future Land Use Map of the City of Appleton Comprehensive Plan. Appleton’s planning commission will consider the applications at their July 24 meeting.
According to a future land use map, the development will include several residential housing warnings, commercial and industrial and mixed-use spaces, a central business district, public parks and open areas and ponds/water.
On its website, Thrivent wrote, in part:
Thrivent is excited to continue working with the City of Appleton and the larger community to create a vibrant space fostering strong connections, promoting inclusivity, and enhancing the well-being and quality of life for all residents. The Master Development Plan continues to represent and integrate ideas and feedback we received as a part of the community meetings. The proposed plans for the development currently include a full range of new housing choices, an employment center, active and passive recreation, dining and neighborhood shopping and services. More than a third of the site is planned to be restored and preserved as public parks, open space, waterways and a system of trails that will connect seamlessly with the larger community.
Thrivent first announced in May 2023 it was considering selling the land as the company’s space needs decreased. It has been seeking public input on redevelopment possibilities since last September, including holding two community feedback events for the public to share their input.
