APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Bergtrom Automotive team and community members raised an all time record of $355,000 to help make life-changing wishes come true for local kids and families facing critical illnesses.
Throughout the month of June, Bergstrom led a number of fundraisers to help raise money for Make-A-Wish Wisconsin.
All Bergstrom dealerships donated $5 for every test drive taken and $50 for every vehicle purchased. Plus, Bergstrom Automotive donated $5 for each new fan on their social media platforms. On Saturday, June 22, Bergstrom dealerships throughout the Fox Valley, Green Bay, Oshkosh & Madison held a special Oil Change Day offering discounted oil changes with a donation of $15 or more, and they matched all donations made to Make-A-Wish Wisconsin. Hundreds of oil changes were performed. Plus, Bergstrom team members doubled their love for wish kids, by doubling all donations for test drives, vehicle sales and for new fans on social media.
A check presentation Wednesday featured children whose wishes were granted by the organization.
That included three-year-old MaCollin of Appleton who was diagnosed with a brain tumor and Sophia of Kaukauna, who was born with a rare liver disease.
MaCollin’s wish was to be a princess at Walt Disney World and Sophia’s wish was to have a gazebo in her backyard.
Stephanie Skrede, Sophia’s mom, says her daughter is outside all the time in the gazebo, painting, dancing and playing with friends.
“It has made Sophia feel like a normal kid. She has to be cautious with the sunlight because of being post transplant and this has given her a space to just go out and be a kid and it went even further in November when I was diagnosed with breast cancer and this has given her a space where she can just go and get away from the reality of life and just have fun and be a kid,” she said.
Both families say they are grateful for what the Make-A-Wish organization and Bergstrom has done for them and other families like them.
