APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — This year’s Appleton MASH Blood Drive is a part of the Summer Tour for All Types – a program that aims to keep blood donations steady through the summer.
“This is a great way, during the time of year when people aren’t necessarily thinking about giving blood, to rally the community, get together, collect blood, and service those hospitals,” said Jim Martin, vice president of operations at the Community Blood Center.
If you missed the event, you can register to donate blood on the Community Blood Center website.
Martins added that they expected around 400 people will turn out to donate.
“We had a 16-year-old donor come in, right now, who is going to donate,” he told us. “We had a donor earlier today that this is their 31st MASH Drive that they’ve come to.”
Appleton resident Ernest Moore says he’s been donating for over ten years, and is a frequent at the Community Blood Center.
“As often as possible, when they call, I’m donating,” he emphasized. “They have my – like I said, they know my name. I recognize the number. I rarely say no, if ever.”
Adison Brown, a student at Kimberly High School, also donated at Wednesday’s drive and hopes to continue giving in the future.
“I came because this is an opportunity to help people,” she expressed. “I feel like I only give up less than an hour of my time, and if just an hour of my time can save somebody’s life, you know, it’s worth it.”
The CBC summer tour returns to the Appleton-area in August and will take place at a Timber Rattlers game.
