SHAWANO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Police are stepping up nighttime patrols at Shawano parks to combat what they call a “recent surge in vandalism incidents.”
Officers are also asking for the public’s help.
Police are urging people to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity in parks by calling (715) 526-6117.
Parents are also being asked to speak with their children about respecting public property. Police say parents should make sure their children understand the consequences of vandalizing parks, and encourage their children to report any wrongdoing they witness.
Surveillance cameras in the parks have also been improved.
“The Shawano Police Department is committed to preserving the beauty and safety of our city parks,” Lt. Michael Musolff said in a news release. “We are taking these steps to ensure that our parks remain a safe and welcoming environment for all residents and visitors.”
Those found violating park regulations will be given no-trespass notices and may face further legal action, police warn.
