GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — First Lady Jill Biden visited downtown Green Bay Thursday for the second time in about four months.
Her last visit in February to the Railyard Innovation District focused on the younger generation and education.
This visit, she spoke to those more interested in pickleball and bingo.
“Life doesn’t stop when you hit a number,” said Biden.
In the basement of the Brown County Central Library, about 150 people, mostly of the 65 and older variety, listened to Biden kick off the Seniors for Biden/Harris campaign.
“Joe Biden is a healthy, wise 81-year-old ready and willing to work for you every day to make our future better,” said Biden.
Biden connected with the crowd early on talking about her role as grandmother.
She then highlighted her husband’s accomplishments in healthcare, including the ability for Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices and capping the price of insulin at $35 a month.
“He strengthened the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid, bringing the uninsured rate lower than any other President has,” said Biden.
She also spent time attacking likely Republican nominee, former President Donald Trump – reminding the crowd the Affordable Care Act came within a vote of being overturned during his time in the White House.
“Make no mistake, Donald Trump is dangerous to our livelihoods, to our security and the future of our country,” said Biden.
At the conclusion of her nearly 13-minute speech, supporters said they felt inspired.
“Her whole self being is in this to win it,” said Diane Deaumler of Green Bay.
“It hit my heart and it certainly said so many things that are on my mind these days and that are truths in my world,” said Jane Benson, a Democratic candidate for Wisconsin’s 4th State Assembly District.
The First Lady is bringing this same message to several other states as part of a two-day tour. After this, she was off to Minnesota and on Friday concluding along the West Coast.
The Republican Party of Wisconsin released this statement on the first lady’s visit:
With higher costs on everything from groceries to healthcare, seniors are done with the failed policies of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Wisconsinites know a better day will begin when they restore Republican leadership to the White House this November.
While the First Lady spoke about senior issues inside the library, outside, an issue that has seen the President lose some supporters was on display. Some demonstrators were voicing their support for Palestine on the corner of Pine and Madison Streets. They were chanting and holding signs, including one that said uncommitted to Biden.
