FOND DU LAC COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A project to build and operate a dairy anaerobic digester is getting more than $28 million in loans and grants from the federal government.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture says Abel Project LLC is receiving a $25 million loan and $1 million grant from the Rural Energy For America Program, along with a nearly $2.2 million USDA Rural Development Business and Industry loan guarantee.
According to USDA, the digester will capture and convert biomethane to natural gas on site. The converted gas will supply local utilities and the digester operation is expected to create eight jobs.
The Abel Project was among 15 Wisconsin projects announced Thursday as receiving more than $27 million in REAP grants and loans.
