GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A playground built for everyone opened up at Bay Beach Amusement Park Monday.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held for Marilyn’s Oasis, a new all-inclusive playground, just west of the park’s Zippin Pippin rollercoaster.
It was named after the late daughter of Green Bay Packaging’s founder, George Kress.
It features specialized equipment that allows for safer fun for all. It includes a swings, serenity spot, musical components, steel slide, roller slide, 5-12 Playspace, tot lot, playhouse with tunnel, and shade play canopies.
Marilyn’s daughter, Terry Wickman, spoke at the ribbon cutting and says it’s the perfect way to honor her mother, who died in 2021.
“Now as it is a memorial to our mother and our grandmother, I would like to share a couple of thoughts about mom on a personal level. First of all, mom would have loved this. It is so fitting as mom came here as a child for family picnics and to play at the beach. Mom loved children and she would smile, and I mean a comforted, satisfied, loving smile to see all children play here,” Wickman said.
The playground was made possible through the support of Green Bay Packaging’s George Kress Foundation, McDonalds Companies, Wisconsin Public Service Foundation, the City of Green Bay and Friends of Bay Beach Amusement Park.
