GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A special ceremony was held Saturday morning as families and friends welcomed home 32 soldiers returning from overseas.
Army Reserve soldiers in the 432nd Civil Affairs Battalion were in Central Europe for their 10-month mobilization.
Their deployment was part of Operation European Assure, Deter, and Reinforce, where they supported the U.S. Army V Corps, demonstrating a commitment to NATO allies and partners.
“We had six teams covering eight different countries in Europe,” says Major Nicholas Berger. “Working with our host nations, civic partners, building up strength within our partners, deconflicting issues, and enhancing NATO’s presence as a deterrence toward any aggression from any of our adversaries.”
Upon their return, an hour-long ceremony was held in the Lambeau Field Atrium, where there was also a change of command.
“The support that we receive from Green Bay, from the VFW in De Pere, from all the organizations here in central northeastern Wisconsin was overwhelming,” Berger adds. “The deployment was difficult but very rewarding.”
Berger says it’s always an honor to walk the streets their predecessors walked during WWII.
