LITTLE CHUTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – For over 30 years, the Great Wisconsin Cheese Festival has called Little Chute home. Some residents are now saying they’ve had enough.
“It’s been getting significantly worse every year,” Little Chute resident Charles Reardon said.
This year’s event has largely been overshadowed by a viral social media post showing a homeowner with severe injuries he sustained early Sunday morning while trying to break up a fight. Neighbors Reardon and Jake Marx say it’s far from the first time they’ve experienced issues living near Doyle Park.
“Urinating in our yards, exposing themselves, defecating in the yards, drinking, doing drugs in people’s yards, destroying property, climbing fences,” Reardon said.
“This year I got two tires slashed on one of my trucks in the driveway, along with the regular little and there’s some puke in the road,” Marx said. “Shouldn’t happen, I mean, there’s no reason for it.”
Marx said he’s now come to dread Cheesefest every year.
“It should be fun for us,” Marx said. “I mean, we can walk right down there, we don’t have to deal with the parking headache, but it’s the opposite.”
Marx and Reardon both attended a village board meeting Wednesday night to voice their displeasure.
“We acknowledge that many of you may be here tonight to share your comments about the incident on June second,” Village President Michael Vanden Berg said. “However, please note that it is not on tonight’s agenda. Our role tonight is to listen actively, we cannot engage in dialogue.”
As for what residents hope for the future, they’re asking for some changes.
“It just needs more enforcement to take care all of all the people causing mischief and then maybe make some examples of the people causing mischief,” Reardon said.
“We just gotta find a happy medium and just- it can’t be run the way it’s currently being run,” Marx said.
Prior to the start of the board meeting, FOX 11 spoke with Village Administrator Beau Burnhoft. He declined to comment on the situation citing the ongoing Fox Valley Metro Police Department investigation.
On Monday, FOX 11 spoke with the Fox Valley Metro Police Department about the brawl. They’re still searching for suspects. If you have any information you’re asked contact the department at 920-788-7505.
