(WTAQ-WLUK) — An Appleton woman convicted of producing and distributing child pornography was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison Monday.
38-year-old Charlotta Belgum was charged in January for producing the material “using a minor child” between Dec. 2021 and June 2022. She then shared it with a male acquaintance from Texas whom she met in an online fetish forum, officials said.
That man has been arrested and charges are pending against him in the Eastern District of Wisconsin, according to a news release.
Court records further indicate that Belgum also distributed other images of child pornography and engaged in lengthy online conversations centered around the intended sexual abuse of children.
At sentencing, the judge stated Belgum’s crime was “‘of great magnitude and despicable'” and emphasized the “profound impact” Belgum’s actions had on the victims.
Once her 20-year prison sentence is complete, Belgum will spend the remainder of her life on supervised release. She will also be required to register as a sex offender.
