COMBINED LOCKS, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — While embracing the Wisconsin way, a benefit in Combined Locks on Saturday was working to make a difference in the community.
The ‘Mission 22’ benefit at Kamps Bar and Grill saw friends, family, and veterans enjoy a classic Midwest cookout alongside live music.
Guests could also participate in a raffle and live auction, knowing that all proceeds from the event go toward helping veterans who are struggling in their everyday lives after returning home.
The number 22 refers to the approximate number of veterans daily who take their own lives.
The work the benefit does stems from that horrible number.
“We started this morning with a 2.2 mile walk which was preceded by the national anthem, drawing things together on the reality of what military service is all about.” says Chuck Kuen, with Mission 22. “That’s serving our country. We remember those who did that, and keep them alive.”
Mission 22 has brought in $93,000 over the last three years for the important cause.
They’re hoping that this year they’ll soar past that $100,000 mark.
