GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Saturday marked a milestone in the life of 133 students at Bellin College: commencement day.
Of those 133 students, 89 graduated with Bachelor of Science degrees, 20 graduated with Masters degrees, and 21 with Doctorate degrees.
Saturday’s commencement also marked the very first group of students to graduate from newly implemented programs at the school.
Leaders say for the first time, some students are leaving Bellin College with a bachelor of science degree in surgical assisting, and some are leaving with a cardiovascular concentration from the sonography program.
At Saturday’s ceremony, system leaders addressed the Bellin and Gundersen Health merger and the newly announced name of the now-joined system; Emplify Health.
Leaders reassured students and families that despite the change, the college’s name will remain in place.
“We merged so that we could have a bigger impact on health and well-being together than either organization could have on their own,” said Chris Woleske, the Bellin health region president. “Yet, 1.5 years into our merger, many people still didn’t know we had merged. We went through a very thorough process to identify a name we could use with our legacy names. The Bellin name means a lot in this region, it has a strong over 100-year legacy. So, we wanted a new name that would show Bellin and Gundersen are together as a system but would still honor the Bellin and Gundersen names. Asking our staff and people in our community to tell us what describes Bellin and Gundersen, certain words popped out. One of those words was empathy.”
Woleske says the name Emplify is a combination of ’empathy’ and ‘amplify,’ which she says leaders felt resonated with both Bellin and Gundersen Health.
In our region, Bellin Health will soon be referred to as ‘Emplify Health by Bellin.’
