GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Miguel Lavariega was sentenced Thursday to four years on probation for an inadvertent shooting which injured one person.
Lavariega, 20, previously pleaded no contest to second-degree reckless injury, and two other charges for the April 2023 incident with a sawed-off shotgun. He has already served more than a year in jail in the case.
Before the sentence was issued, Lavariega said he has learned from the incident.
At his request, Lavariega will also write a letter of apology to the victim.
Police say the shooting occurred in the 1300 block of Harvey Street when Lavariega brought a .22 rifle to the residence to show the victim when it allegedly accidently fired. One person was hospitalized.
