ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Football fans continue to make a difference in the lives of struggling veterans in the community.
PMI Entertainment Group presented a $20,468 check to the local chapter of Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Thursday.
The money was collected through a series of DAV jersey raffles held at Bart Starr Plaza tailgate parties outside the Resch Center during every Green Bay Packers regular season home game.
The money is used to help veterans who have fallen on hard times and need assistance with things like food, rent and other bills.
Veteran and DAV adjutant, Matt Kempainen, says they could not help veterans without the support of fans.
“We just had a veteran come in and ask for help with repairs for their car because they need the car to get to their job, they need the job to keep working, and it’s kind of a circle of life and sometimes with issues like that, we are there and can help them because a lot of veterans are working and they’re working pay check to pay check and paying their bills and utilities and stuff like that, especially with families, so they really don’t have that nest egg saved up when a big price or something comes in and it really affects their livelihood,” explained Kempainen.
And while the check is a little bit smaller than last season, Kempainen says with Jordan Love as returning quarterback for the Packers, he has hope it will be bigger for the 2024-2025 season.
