The 108th W.I.A.A. Boys State Basketball Championship Field is set. 20 teams in 5 divisions will play for gold balls at the Kohl Center beginning Thursday afternoon. Here’s the schedule with the matchups and how they arrived.
Thursday, March 14
1:35 PM Division 3 Semifinals. #1 seed St. Thomas More vs #4 Prescott, followed by #2 Kiel vs #3 Lakeside Lutheran.
The Kiel Raiders will take a 28-0 record into the final four after rolling through the Eastern Wisconsin Conference, beating Freedom 73-56 in their sectional final. It’s the third trip to state in school history, their first since a 2010 semifinal loss to Northwestern. The Raiders were runner-up in 1974 to Sheboygan Falls.
6:35 PM Division 4 Semifinals. #1 seed Marathon vs #4 Kenosha St. Joseph followed by #2 Mineral Point vs #3 Aquinas.
Marathon reached state by beating Bonduel 68-61 in their sectional final while Kenosha St. Joseph defeated Kohler 66-36 to reach Madison.
Friday, March 15
9:05 AM Division 5 Semifinals. #1 seed Columbus Catholic vs #4 Solon Springs followed by #2 Almond Bancroft vs #3 Abundant Life Christian.
Almond/Bancroft earned it’s trip to the Kohl Center by knocking out Reedsville 70-57 in the sectional final.
1:35 PM Division 2 Semifinals. #1 seed Wisconsin Lutheran vs #4 Nicolet followed by #2 Pewaukee vs #3 West Salem.
This is the deepest final four of the weekend. Nicolet knocked out Ashwaubenon 56-44 to advance.
6:35 PM Division 1 Semifinals. #1 seed Arrowhead vs #4 Neenah followed by #2 Kettle Moraine vs #3 Marquette University High School.
Arrowhead dethroned defending D1 champion De Pere 85-80 in the sectional final. The Neenah Rockets are back for their state record extending 30th all-time appearance in Madison. The Rockets have reached the Kohl Center each of the past three seasons. They advanced over Marshfield 52-48 for their sectional title and are seeking the 5th championship in school history, the most recent coming in 2002.
Saturday, March 16
Championship games begin at 11:05 AM in Division 5, followed by Division 4 and 3 title games 15 minutes after the conclusion of prior matchup. The Division 2 title game tips at 6:35 PM with the Division 1 final afterwards.
