STEVENS POINT, WI (WTAQ) – Wisconsin’s 36th annual Special Olympics begin Thursday at UW-Stevens Point.
Almost 1,900 athletes, 820 volunteers, and about 640 coaches are involved in events that include track and field, soccer, aquatics, and powerlifting.
The Tournament Central facility was moved to the DeBot Center on campus, due to construction. Also, the powerlifting events were moved from the campus to the Stevens Point YMCA for the first time.
In addition, the athletes can obtain free eye and hearing exams, dental screenings, and health education.
Officials say there’s still room for volunteers. The Special Olympics run through Saturday.
