MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – “Who is a nine-time ‘Jeopardy!’ champion from Northeastern Wisconsin?”
That is how Rep. Kristina Shelton (D-Green Bay, 90th District) began her speech in a floor session Tuesday, introducing Assembly Joint Resolution 114 to honor the success of Ben Chan.
A philosophy professor at St. Norbert College, Chan earned himself local celebrity status last spring after winning more than $250,000 during his nine-game “Jeopardy!” streak. He will make his return to the show as part of the Tournament of Champions, which begins Friday on FOX 11. His first appearance will be in a quarterfinal game on March 5.
“I was super excited that my colleague from the 90th invited Ben Chan to be here. This resolution, to me, I mean, this is my kind of a hero,” said Rep. Lisa Subeck (D-Madison, 78th District). “Somebody who is intelligent, who is representing the state of Wisconsin well, who will be representing us in the Tournament of Champions, and I’m just really excited to have him here.”
“His achievements not only reflect his unwavering dedication to the pursuit of knowledge but also serves as an inspiration to many, encouraging folks to pursue their own educational aspirations,” said Shelton. “During the show, Ben took moments to share positive stories about Green Bay, showcasing the city’s charm on a national stage.”
Shelton also praised Chan’s commitment to his community, using his “Jeopardy!” winnings to support local organizations focused on mental health, addiction counseling and public park initiatives.
