(WTAQ-WLUK) – Only five sturgeon were speared Thursday – all on Lake Winnebago – as the season lumbers towards its close on Sunday.
The five sturgeon harvested on Lake Winnebago bring the total there to 274. The total remained at 114 on the upriver lakes, as none were taken.

Each of the two systems have harvest caps for juvenile females, adult females, and males. If any of the three caps are reached, the season is closed, even if it hasn’t reached the full 16-day season.
With Thursday’s numbers, the closest-to-cap category on Lake Winnebago is the juvenile females. So far, 40 have been harvested, which is 14.2% of the cap of 280 sturgeon.
On the upriver lakes, the closet-to-cap category is adult females. So far, 30 have been harvested, which is 37.5% of the cap of 80 sturgeon.
