The Green Bay Phoenix picked up a nice road win against a former conference rival as they defeated the UIC Flames in Chicago Tuesday night 70-68. Elijah Jones tipped in a missed shot with a half second to play for the win. It was the only time GB had the lead all night. Sizzling three point shooting early by the Flames built a 12 point first half lead. The Phoenix cut to it three but a last second turnover led to a buzzer beating three at the half putting UIC up 37-31. The Flames built the lead to 53-43 midway through the second half which is when Noah Reynolds rallied GB. He finished with 31 points, the first 30 point effort by a Phoenix player in three years. Freshman David Douglas Jr. put up 14 off the bench. Jones, who made the play at the finish, wound up with 11 points and 10 rebounds as Green Bay improves to 5-6 under first year Head Coach Sundance Wicks. The Phoenix will have a tall order next, traveling to Norman, Oklahoma on Saturday to face the 11th ranked Sooners.
The Green Bay women (5-3) get their shot at former Horizon League member UIC tonight tipping off at the Kress Events Center at 7:00 PM.
