DOOR COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — With the fall season well underway, business is ramping up across Door County.
At Malvitz Bay Farms, it’s a sea of orange.
The Malvitz family picks each pumpkin by hand.
“My kids help pick some of the pumpkins,” said Mary Malvitz. “It’s a family operation here. We’ve been doing it for a long time.”
35 years, in fact.
Business has picked up over the last month, as people decorate for fall.
“Last weekend was pretty good. Saturday the weather was not very good, we still had people out here. It didn’t seem to stop them from coming,” added Malvitz. “Sunday was a nice day, it was phenomenal.”
At Schartner’s Farm Market in Egg Harbor, David Schartner and his wife have been in business for 40 years.
Schartner has been impressed with this year’s pumpkin crop.
“We started to get moisture the end of July and into August and it made a really nice crop,” said Schartner.
Another popular produce item for the Schartners is apples.
“We’ve got Honeycrisp, Courtland, McIntosh, Macoun’s, we’re gonna have Jonathan’s coming shortly,” added Schartner.
A steady stream of people were at Schartner’s Farm Market Thursday picking out pumpkins and apples.
The market expects to have a successful weekend with the upcoming Pumpkin Patch Festival in downtown Egg Harbor.
“It’ll be awesome. It’s gonna be busy,” said Schartner. “The weather doesn’t really deter people from coming up on this weekend.”
Both Malvitz Bay Farms and Schartner’s Farm Market expect to have plenty of pumpkins through the end of October.
