SHAWANO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Ann Retzlaff was ordered Wednesday to stand trial on the newest bail jumping charges against her, and her request to lower her cash bonds were denied.
The legal issues for Retzlaff – the former owner of Annie’s Campground in Gresham – started with a May 2021 traffic stop, and additional charges for an April 20 arrest on warrants related to missed court appearances on the first charges. An additional bail jumping charge was filed after allegedly went to Michigan without permission. When she didn’t appear in court in January, Marathon County Judge Michael Moran issued a nationwide arrest warrant for her arrest. She was arrested in August.
After an officer testified Wednesday, Retzlaff was ordered to stand trial on the two bail jumping counts. An arraignment has not been scheduled.
Retzlaff is currently being on held on several cash bonds, totaling $57,000. She has been unable to post them, and remains in custody.
Her attorney requested a lower amount, which was opposed by Shawano Co. District Attorney Gregory Parker. Marathon County Judge Michael Moran denied the motion, leaving the bonds in place.
A Jan. 23 trial date is set on the original fleeing case.
Besides the Shawano County cases, Retzlaff faces charges in Sauk County for allegedly filing illegal liens against those involved in the foreclosure of the campground she used to own. A preliminary hearing is Thursday on that case.
She has routinely objected to the court’s jurisdiction, citing her claims of being a “sovereign citizen.”
Retzlaff was the owner of Annie’s Campground in Gresham, but it was sold at auction to satisfy mortgage and tax debts.
