GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A new campaign is adding a dash of glamour to the brave journey of breast cancer survivors.
BayCare Clinic and RP Photography in Green Bay teamed up for the first “Faces of Breast Cancer” Thursday.
It’s an opportunity for BayCare breast cancer patients and survivors to have a photoshoot, complete with hair and makeup and share their stories.
Rachael Phillips, owner of RP Photography, says she wanted to do something special for breast cancer patients after having her first mammogram.
She says the first sessions were emotional.
“I’m hoping that the women we interview throughout the month are just more accepting of their bodies and giving them an outlet if they haven’t told their story yet, this is a great opportunity for them to express their fears, their celebrations, what they’ve overcome and I always ask them what’s your plans, your goals, going forward and I’ve heard some awesome, inspiring things like traveling more, just learning to appreciate my family and my children,” Phillips said.
Breast cancer patient, Korissa Diehl, of Green Bay, says being a part of the campaign has been empowering.
“First of all, when you go through cancer, I mean, it’s ugly, you lose your hair and you go through treatment, you’re not feeling good, you’re sick and then all of a sudden you get to come to do an event like this and you get pampered a little bit and they do your hair and makeup and I’m in mid-hair and makeup right now, and that’s okay, and it shows a little bit of beauty in all of the ugly that you go through,” she said.
The inaugural campaign will feature 10 stories that will be posted on RP Photography’s website throughout the month of October.
BayCare Clinic says interest in the campaign has been so strong, they plan to do it again next year.
