BEAR CREEK, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A two-year, $7.4 million construction project impacting nearly 13 miles of highway from the village of Shiocton to the town of Bear Creek is scheduled to begin next week.
According to WisDOT, full closures of Highway 76 and Highway 22 are necessary to conduct the construction operations. Highway 22 will be closed starting on Sept. 5 and is expected to reopen in mid-November.
This project includes three main components located in both Waupaca and Outagamie counties.
The first component is located at the Waupaca/Outagamie County Line to U.S. Highway 45.
Project improvements include:
- Mill/overlay of existing pavement
- Realignment of median islands on Highway 76/Highway 22 at US 45 intersection
- Widening for an improved right turn lane on Highway 22 at US 45 intersection
- Pavement markings and shoulder gravel
The second component is located at Highway 54 to the Outagamie/Waupaca County Line.
Project improvements include:
- Mill/overlay of existing pavement
- Culvert replacements
- Beam guard replacements
- Curb ramp replacements in Bear Creek
- Pavement markings and shoulder gravel
The third component of the project is replacing two existing bridges with box culverts between Boelter Road and County W in Outagamie County.
The west leg of US 45/Highway 76/Highway 22 will be closed for intersection improvements, with Highway 22 detoured for 45 days. The detour route will utilize County T and County O.
Highway 76 will be detoured for the culvert, paving and structure replacement work in 2023 and 2024. Specific dates have not yet been announced. The detour will follow WIS 54 and US 45.
Traffic control in the form of flagging operations will be utilized to close one lane at a time in portions of the construction zones.
