GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The jury in a Green Bay murder trial is expected to hear from a woman accused of killing a dismembering a man last year.
Testimony will continue on the second day of Taylor Schabusiness’ trial.
Schabusiness is charged with first-degree intentional homicide, mutilating a corpse and third-degree sexual assault in the death of Shad Thyrion in February 2022.
On Monday, both the defense and prosecution provided their opening statements. A few witnesses took the stand, including Thyrion’s mother who told the jury about the moment she discovered her son’s head in a bucket in the basement of her house.
A supervisor from the Brown County 911 Center and a detective from the Green Bay Police Department testified.
On Tuesday, prosecutors plan to play part of her interview with investigators after she was taken into custody.
According to the criminal complaint, police were called to a residence on Stony Brook Lane early in the morning of Feb. 23, 2022. There, police found a severed head inside a bucket in the basement. Schabusiness said she and Thyrion were using drugs, including meth, and engaging in sexual play when he was strangled. She then sexually abused him, dismembered the body and placed body parts in various locations in the home and a vehicle, the criminal complaint states.
The competency issue has been raised several times since the murder. Last week, Schabusiness was ruled mentally competent to stand trial.
