(WNFL) – The Milwaukee Brewers pulled to within 1 game of first-place Cincinnati in the National League’s Central Division with a 6-3 win in Milwaukee on Friday.
Corbin Burnes pitched 6 innings and Joey Wiemer and Willy Adames both hit 2-run home runs to lead the Brewers.
Burnes had a shut out going into the fifth inning before Joey Votto hit a 2-run home run but by that time, Milwaukee already had a 4-0 lead.
Burnes worked 6 innings, giving up 3 runs on 3 hits and 4 walks. He struck out 6.
Devin Williams got the final 2 outs in the ninth inning for his 19th save.
The Brewers scored all 6 of their runs off of rookie southpaw Anthony Abbott.
Abbott had allowed only 5 runs in his previous 6 major league starts.
The Brewers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on back-to-back-to-back doubles by William Contreras, Adames and Owen Miller. Then added 2 more runs in the second on Wiemer’s home run and their final 2 runs in the fifth on Adames’ home run.
