DOOR COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – After over five years of being closed off, the Potawatomi State Park Observation Tower has secured funding for repairs and preservation efforts.
Northeast Wisconsin State Representatives André Jacque and Joel Kitchens are celebrating after Gov. Tony Evers signed the biennial budget into law without vetoing funding for the Potawatomi tower project.
The 75-foot tower was built in 1931 but has been closed since 2017 due to structural integrity concerns.
In March, Evers agreed to an emergency stabilization project to preserve the landmark using up to $500,000 of emergency repair funding under the State Building Commission.
The 2023-25 budget included an amendment allocating an additional $500,000 to complete repairs on the existing tower.
Work is expected to start in 2025.
