Tess Hackworthy of Madison is now a five time champion of the Wisconsin State Women’s Open after rallying in the final round and winning the title on the 4th playoff hole at the Blackhawk Country Club in Madison Tuesday. Hackworthy, a former University of Wisconsin golfer, beat her teammate for three years, practice partner and best friend Bobbi Stricker in the playoff. Hackworthy rebounded from a tough second round by firing a 4 under, 68 to finish at one over, 217 for the tournament, catching Stricker to force a playoff. Alternating between the 13th and 18th holes in the playoff, both players were even after three before Hackworthy birdied the par 5 13th to secure her 5th Open championship. Stricker’s caddied just happened to be her father Steve, coming off the American Family Championship last Sunday. Hackworthy hopes to carry the momentum into her next event, earning a sponsor’s exemption to play in the Epson Tour’s Island Resort Championship at the Sweetgrass Golf Club in Harris, Michigan June 23-25.
