APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) — The Appleton Police Department is warning about a certain type of theft popping up frequently in the last few weeks.
Burglaries of construction trailers sometimes occur due to the difficulty to secure a trailer or lack of other buildings or people around the area. Appleton Police Chief, Polly Olson, says these incidents tend to run in streaks; where a few trailers will get burglarized before the suspect moves on to another location.
These incidents are occurring mostly on the north side of town. It’s mostly tools that have been stolen, but a generator was also taken from a site.
Chief Olson noted that one construction site had $9 thousand worth of tools taken.
“At times, those areas aren’t real busy areas if it’s a new construction site. There might not be other buildings in that area.” said Chief Olson. “It might be more difficult to secure some of those trailers.”
Chief Olson says to make sure sure all trailers are as secure as they can be, and having surveillance cameras could also help.
