WASHINGTON (WTAQ-WLUK) — Green Bay’s Mike Gallagher is calling on Democratic President Joe Biden to be more transparent once again — this time, regarding the origins of COVID-19, after the U.S. Energy Department concluded that the outbreak likely began in a Chinese lab.
U.S. Rep. Gallagher, R-8th District, released a statement Monday after Sunday’s revelation.
“As evidence clearly mounts in favor of the lab-leak hypothesis, the American people deserve complete transparency from the federal government on the origins of COVID-19,” wrote Gallagher.
He says that anyone who suggested that the virus may have leaked from a lab was “labeled as a conspiracy theorist.” Now, that may be the leading theory.
Gallagher is calling on the Biden administration to declassify all intelligence, save sources and methods, regarding the virus’ origins. He also wants “information as to who was advising the members of the Intelligence Community who have dismissed or downplayed the concept of a lab leak.”
Beyond transparency, Gallagher is also calling for action.
“We must also take concrete steps to hold the Chinese Communist Party accountable for their lack of transparency surrounding COVID-19.”
Gallagher, who chairs the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, is proposing a bill that would impose sanctions and other restrictions until China allows an international investigation into the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
Gallagher says this information is crucial to preventing the next pandemic.
