APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – An Appleton retirement community is giving back to those who helped their residents in their time of need.
Primrose Retirement Community residents and staff spent Thursday handing out gift cards and other treats to unsuspecting firefighters and first responders based out of Appleton Fire Station 6, on the city’s northside.
Executive director of Primrose, Steve Gromala, says those at fire station 6 are always the first to respond to medical emergency calls at Primrose.
“With the challenges faced in the world today, we can all use some extra kindness, and kindness from a stranger is something guaranteed to make a person smile. Primrose has been participating in Random Acts of Kindness for the past seven years, and this day is a favorite of our residents and staff. Each year we like to focus our attention on those in our community who share their kindness with us. This year our residents and staff have chosen to show kindness back to the dedicated staff of Appleton Fire Station 6.”
Battalion Chief of Appleton Fire, Doug Vrechek, says it feels good to be appreciated.
“It’s one of those gestures that’s not asked for and it takes a lot of work to do this gesture, so it wasn’t like they just mailed us a card, they took out in this weather to come out here and give us this, so it’s a fantastic gift.”
Primrose says it hopes this random act of kindness will encourages others to pay it forward and show kindness to others in the community.
