OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – EAA will be celebrating 70 years at AirVenture in Oshkosh this summer.
Founded on Jan. 26, 1953, as an airplane club with aspirations to make the freedom to fly possible in every community, it is now the world’s largest fly-in convention.
The event returns, featuring nine air shows over the course of seven days. Organizers have released the preliminary line-up of new and returning acts, including only-in-Oshkosh performers and aircraft.
There will be events and anniversaries related to specific plane models.
Organizers say turnout continues to soar higher and higher every year.
“It started as 36 guys at an airport in Milwaukee that just had a general interest in aviation, and that has grown to a community of 270,000 great members,” said Drew Stephani, a communication specialist at EAA.
Aviation enthusiasts can also celebrate “The Spirit of Aviation” by joining one of the 900 local chapters.
Certified training programs and a flight simulator are both parts of the new youth education center.
The convention is scheduled to take place from July 24 – 30 at Wittman Regional Airport.
