MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ) – The city of Manitowoc has taken ownership of the former Mirro Building.
That’s according to Mayor Justin Nickels, who spoke about the move to officials take over the building at 1512 Washington Street.
Back in June 2015, the Manitowoc City Council voted to order E.J. Spirtas Manitowoc LLC to tear down the building.
The seven-story building housed the former aluminum cookware plant, which closed in 2003. It has been empty since.
Last December, FOX 11 reported Nickels hoped to have demolition start sometime this year, when a new apartment project was scheduled for completion. Those apartments, known as the Artist Lofts, are in the old Plant No. 3 building on Franklin St.
