GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The Better Business Bureau is seeing more phony Government agency calls.
This time, victims are being targeted for Medicaid scams, including offering free products for the exchange of personal information.
“They are offering things like a free back brace or a free knee brace.”
Susan Bach of the Better Business Bureau of Northeast Wisconsin says it is a ploy to try to get information or money by claiming that there is a problem with the victim’s Medicaid.
“These are impersonators, this is definitely a scam that is targeting senior citizens.”
Bach says for that reason, being able to determine that it is a scam may be difficult, but there are steps that can be taken to protect yourself.
“They don’t call consumers unsolicited,” Bach said. “Don’t answer phone calls from unknown numbers and if you are skeptical of the call, just hang up.”
And those who feel that they have become a Medicaid scam victim should report it.
