DENMARK, WI (WTAQ) – In the hopes of bringing new jobs and new investment, the Village of Denmark is working with Brown County and businesses to announce the creation of the Denmark Business Development Corridor.
The infrastructure includes building a roundabout on County Highway KB as the first phase this spring. Village President Greg Mleziva.
“We were just barely making ends meet and we had a TIF District that was about to close, and it just meant a lot of uncertainty for the Village moving forward,” said Denmark Village President Greg Mleziva.
Now plans are to bring a Kwik Trip into Denmark.
“A large concentration of our revenue base was in the residential sector of the village and we always heard that off the interstate, there is this opportunity when it goes through I-43, Denmark is really going to benefit from that.”
Brown County Public Works Director Paul Fontecchio the county is working with Denmark on the infrastructure.
“You can’t build new buildings and new warehouses and new Kwik Trips without a good way to get in and out.”
Salm Partners has agreed to invest about $35 million in an 80,00 square foot production and storage facility.
That’s expected to bring 80 new jobs to operate the production line.
Fontecchio says the first thing to go up will be the roundabout.
“Having that roundabout will allow for that free flow of traffic, uninterrupted. Semis will be able to make that left turn out back to the interstate which is a huge aspect of it.”
The rest of the project includes upgrading and expanding business park roads.
The Village of Denmark is making this happen without creating a Tax Increment Financing District so that much needed new tax revenue can be collected and used by the community rather than be diverted to the district.
