OCONTO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Oconto officials have confirmed a city plow driver struck and killed a man Tuesday afternoon.
Officials say the man was struck on Pecor Street, right behind the fire department and city offices.
Oconto City Administrator Sara Perrizo tells FOX 11 it appeared the man was walking along the street when he was hit.
Perrizo also says the city employee was driving a snow loader truck. The incident happened at the end of the employee’s eight-hour shift as he was driving the loader back to the shop.
The State Patrol is handling the investigation because a city employee is involved.
Perizzo said the city’s concern moving forward is with the victim and the driver.
“It’s extremely tragic. We’ve never had anything happen like this before with the city employee. Of course, we’re all saddened for the loss of the family.”
Perrizzo believes the man who died lived in Oconto.
She says a blood-alcohol test performed on the employee who hit the man came back negative.
Perizzo isn’t sure how long the man’s been employed by the city but says it’s at least 8 years.
