KAUKAUNA, WI (WTAQ) – The holiday season has come and gone, but the conversation in Kaukauna remains fixated on the North Pole.
Specifically, where to put it.
For a decade the holiday display has been on Troy Campbell’s yard, which draws thousands of visitors.
It turned out that this past year was his last year showcasing the display on his property.
“The city would not permit me to do it at my personal location due to complaints, which is fine,” says Campbell
According to the city, neighbors had a number of concerns.
“There was a lot of issue with neighbors, people pulling in peoples driveways, backing out, blocking driveways,” says Mayor Tony Penterman.
The Industrial Park Commission agreed to relocate the display within the City of Kaukauna on Tuesday, according to Mayor Penterman.
And with that, the winter wonderland was on its way.
“When we heard there were some issues of having it the display at (Campbell’s) house, we decided to check into having it on a vacant piece of property here on industrial park,” says Dale Zuleger, Vice President of Concrete Cutters.
Concrete Cutters took on the task by placing the display on the corner of Badger Street and Prospect Avenue.
But now, the concerns have moved to the businesses surrounding the industrial park.
Some requested that their “parking lot not be used for parking” and others have said that safety is their main concern with “semi traffic occurring all day and into the evening.”
Not everyone is buying that concern.
“Most businesses in this area are closed after 5 o’clock, so I don’t believe there will be any concern with traffic,” says Zuleger.
With concerns surrounding both locations, this year will be treated as a trial run.
“It was kind of numbing, I was happy but it shouldn’t have gotten this far,” says Campbell.
Campbell adds that he would have taken the display to another community if it would have been turned down in Kaukauna.
The plan is for the North Pole display to be up the day after Thanksgiving and stay up every day from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. through New Year’s Eve.
