OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Oshkosh Police are investigating a phone scam after several people received calls from a man allegedly impersonating an officer.
The Oshkosh Police Department says several people reported receiving a call from a man saying he was an officer with the department. The caller said that they had missed a court date.
While officers may call people regarding investigations, the department says they would not call to get money or gift cards.
Crime Prevention and Public Information Officer for the Oshkosh Police Department, Kate Mann, said sometimes these scam cases present a unique set of challenges.
“These investigations can be complicated”, said Mann. “Sometimes people can be calling from outside of the United States.”
She said police will work with other outside agencies on cases such as these, but citizens with additional information can report it to the Oshkosh Police Department at (920) 236-5700.
Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may contact the Winnebago County Crime Stoppers at (920) 231-8477 or submit a tip online.
