GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A man is in custody and shelter in place orders have been lifted, after a police standoff on Green Bay’s west side Wednesday afternoon.
The Green Bay Police Department says the 31-year-old man, who was wanted on a felony probation/parole warrant, was arrested around 7:45 p.m. — nearly eight hours since the department first spotted him.
Green Bay police say they spotted the man around 12:15 p.m. in the 700 block of S. Ridge Road. Despite police orders, the man barricaded himself inside his home and refused to come out.
S. Ridge Road from W. Mason Street to Hickory Hill Drive as well as Shirley Street between S. Ridge Road and Neufeld Street were closed to traffic into Wednesday evening.
Nearby Franklin Middle School and Notre Dame Academy were put into secure building status. They released as normal at the end of the school day.
Police called in SWAT team and crisis negotiators to try to convince the man to leave the house.
After attempting to negotiate, using noise flash diversionary devices and using less lethal chemicals to get the suspect to peacefully surrender, SWAT entered the home with K9 support.
