DOOR COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – Two people died in a multi-vehicle crash in Door County over the weekend.
One of the victims died at the scene, the other, a 16-year-old girl died after being transported to the hospital.
The crash happened around 6:30 Sunday night at the intersection of County Highway PD and County Highway C in the town of Nasewaupee, near Sturgeon Bay, said Door County Sheriff Chief Deputy Patrick McCarthy.
“A BMW that was traveling northbound on County Highway PD, failed to stop a stop sign and was struck by a Ford F150 that was traveling eastbound.
The 16-year-old was driving the BMW.
“Fire, EMS and law enforcement all responded to the scene.”
McCarthy said the passenger in the car, identified as a 52-year-old Green Bay man, was pronounced dead at the scene. and the 16-year-old and a 20-year-old woman of Austin, Texas, were flown to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the truck was not injured.
McCarthy said while they believe the accident could have been prevented, they always look at the crash histories of the intersection to see what action can be taken.
“We will look to see if there were any environmental factors that contributed to this crash,” McCarthy said. “We will pull the crash data at the intersection and determine if there is something that needs to be done.”
He said steps have already been taken to make the stop sign more visible even prior to the crash as flashing red lights were installed around the sign.
