GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – A woman is facing criminal charges for mistreating a cat.
45-year-old Elizabeth Bartlett was charged Thursday with intentionally mistreating an animal, intentionally abandoning an animal, intentionally failing to provide food, and intentionally improperly sheltering an animal.
An initial court appearance was planned for Thursday afternoon.
A man checking dumpsters in Ashwaubenon heard meowing coming from inside one, according to the criminal complaint.
The box was taped shut and after opening it the cat’s head popped out.
Police determined Bartlett had adopted it in February by using the microchip in the cat, which is named Spencer.
The complaint states that Bartlett invoked her Miranda rights and did not offer a statement to police.
The cat was returned to the Wisconsin Humane Society.
