APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – ThedaCare is helping cancer survivors ring in the good news.
National Cancer Survivors Day was marked with the dedication of the new Survivorship Bell that was relocated to ThedaCare Regional Cancer Center on Tuesday.
“It is a message of I beat you, cancer, I beat you.”
Dr. Imran Andrabi, ThedaCare President and CEO said the ringing of the bell is symbolic.
“It enables us to give hope and make sure people who are going through this difficult time have the ability to see the end in mind.”
The idea came right from those who were impacted most.
“It is something that was the brainchild of two of our patients that were part of the survivorship.”
Dr. Andrabi says the idea is for patients to ring the bell as they walk out of the treatment center for the final time.
The bell was donated by Miron Construction
Three cancer survivors rang the bell during Tuesday’s ceremony.
Dr. Andrabi says the bell will also create hope for cancer patients every time they hear it ring.
