GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Those looking to cool down this summer will have to turn to somewhere other than Colburn Pool.
That’s because the city of Green Bay has announced that the pool will not open this summer after a pipe busted while filling it last week.
According to Green Bay park’s director Dan Ditscheit, all of the electrical parts need to be replaced before it can re-open.
The pool’s 10-week season was supposed to start last Saturday, but was delayed due to a city lifeguard shortage.
Recently, the city council voted to spend $2.5 million to repair the pool after it was supposed to close for the season in August.
A silver lining to the pool being closed all summer, according to Ditscheit, is that work will be able to start sooner.
According to city officials, the repair work is expected to keep the pool operational for about another 20 years.
The parks department is working to move Colburn’s swim lessons and employees to the city’s other two pools, Joannes Aquatic Center and the Resch Aquatic Center, according to Ditscheit.
