APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) — The City of Appleton is likely to see a new Director of Community and Economic Development. Mayor Jake Woodford will recommend Kara Homan, AICP, for the position at the December 7 Common Council meeting.
Homan brings more than 15 years’ experience in urban and regional planning, most recently serving as the Director of Development and Land services for Outagamie County. Prior to that, she worked as a principal planner for the City of Menasha and for the East Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission.
“Kara was a standout candidate in this field,” said Mayor Jake Woodford. “She’s well recognized in the Fox Cities as a leader in community development work.”
Certified by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), Homan serves as the president-elect of the American Planning Association’s Wisconsin chapter.
Homan attended UW Madison and earned her bachelor’s degree in geography and a certificate in environmental studies. She also holds a master’s degree in urban and regional planning, with an emphasis in land use/ environmental planning and economic development, from the University of Iowa.
Current Director, Karen Harkness, will retire in January. If approved, Homan will begin her position on January 4.
