APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – The Fireworks go off tonight in Appleton and many have already claimed their spots to enjoy the show.
By the time the morning ended Wednesday, blankets, and chairs were spread around Memorial Park.
The Appleton Jaycees are helping to make the event possible. Kalie Schiltz of the Jaycees says the show will be worth coming out for, and it is a day before other shows go off.
“Tonight’s main show is going to be over 300 large shells and over 9.000 smaller shells and then the finale will be over 2,600 big and smalls shells combined.”
Schiltz says they work with Spielbauer Fireworks out of Green Bay and they set up and set off the whole show.
“This year, half the show will be done electronically, and half of the show will actually be done manually.”
Lisabeth Watson had her blanket out early in the morning. She says for her family, it is a tradition to attend.
“We live close so we can walk over and we get our blankets out nice and early.”
Activities include a children’s area with bouncy houses, balloon animals and face painting. Music on the stage includes Boogie and the YoYos headlining.
The celebration offers events and music to entertain the whole family starting at 4:00 and it all leads up to the world-class fireworks performance around 9 p.m.
Many are staking out their spots for the Fireworks in Appleton tonight. Wednesday is the day to head to Memorial Park in Appleton for the 2019 Festival Foods Fireworks, but the fun starts at 4:00.
The tradition is for the show to be on the 3rd of July instead of the July 4th. Schiltz says that was a decision based on the concept that more people could come out because almost everyone is off of work on the 4th, but many go back to work on the 5th so they can’t stay out as late.
“This way more people can come out and enjoy and it is one of our big fundraisers.”
Schiltz says they pay for the event and the rest of the money goes back into the community.
Something to watch for tonight is smiley faces within the fireworks show.
