GRAND CHUTE, WI (WTAQ) – A warrant has been issued for a man who nearly hit a Grand Chute police officer with his vehicle.
Police were called to the Burger King parking lot on West College Avenue around 8 Sunday night for a welfare check.
According to the caller, a man had been sitting in his vehicle for three hours and appeared to be falling asleep.
When officers made contact with the man, 31-year-old Rory Behling, he abruptly backed out his vehicle.
“As officers were speaking with Mr. Behling, [he] put his vehicle into reverse, backed up into a Grand Chute squad car,” explains Officer Travis Waas, with Grand Chute PD. “[And] nearly missing an officer that was walking behind his vehicle.”
At that time, he attempted to flee the scene.
“[He] left the parking lot traveling at a high rate of speed,” says Officer Waas. “Officers pursued the vehicle for a short period of time, before ultimately terminating the pursuit.”
Thankfully, no one was hurt in the incident.
“No injuries sustained to the incident, it was definitely a close call,” he explains. “We do have damage to a squad car, though.”
A short time later, the vehicle the man was driving was found left abandoned in a nearby neighborhood.
A K9 officer and a drone searched the area for the man, but he wasn’t found.
Behling is described as standing 6 feet tall, 216 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.
“We don’t believe he is a danger to the public, we don’t believe he has any weapons,” he says. “We definitely want to locate this guy.”
